Valle de Asencio

Sunday, Mar 16 – Day 90

Today, our goal is to make Campamento Torres, which is about 10 miles away. The hike will take 7 or 8 hours, but it will put us at the base of the park’s namesake, the Torres del Paine massif. There’s about 1,500 feet of net elevation gain, but it’s up and down the whole way.

This seemed to be the longest day of my life. All of the trails here in the park are narrow and rocky. They are not well marked, and there no markers indicating how far it is to the end of the trail. So you just trudge, and trudge, and trudge along, occasionally seeing another hiker or two heading in the other direction. The second half of the trail is heading up Valley de Asencio. Not a lot of scenery in the form of stunning rock formations, but the valley is beautiful. We were beat at the end of this trek, but found a little more energy when ended up with a campsite next to a group of cute girls from Germany.
